Finally, the stone is spread to an even depth, typically around 40 to 50mm for most gravels, which is deep enough to cover the membrane but shallow enough to walk on comfortably. Larger features such as boulders, cobbles or slate can be added to create focal points. Maintenance is minimal: an occasional rake and a quick treatment for any self-seeded weeds.
