Patio installation in the UK typically costs from around £90 to £180 per square metre, depending on the paving you choose, the amount of excavation and access, and we'll give you a clear, itemised quote. In most cases you don't need planning permission for a patio, unless it's raised more than 30cm off the ground or your home is listed. Any patio next to the house must sit at least 150mm below the damp proof course and fall away from the building, and where needed we'll fit a linear drainage channel to carry water away. On site, we excavate to the right depth, lay and compact a solid sub-base, then bed every slab on a full mortar bed rather than spots of mortar, which is what causes hollow, rocking slabs. Porcelain is laid with a bonding primer and jointed with a specialist compound, while natural stone is pointed and can be sealed to resist staining.
