Our Story
Planning for Home Renovations in Sidmouth
Founded by best mates Jay and Joshua, J&J Contractors brings more than 25 years of combined experience to homes along the East Devon coast, and Sidmouth is one of our favourite places to work. Nestled between dramatic red cliffs on the Jurassic Coast, Sidmouth is famous for its elegant Regency seafront, Connaught Gardens and its much-loved annual folk festival. The town has a wonderful mix of properties, from grand Regency and Victorian villas and townhouses near the Esplanade to traditional cottages, bungalows and family homes in Sidford, Sidbury and further up the Sid Valley. Coastal living brings its own challenges. Salt air, sea spray and wind-driven rain are tough on fences, render, paintwork and outdoor surfaces, while older properties can suffer from damp and cold solid walls. That's why Sidmouth homeowners need landscaping and interior specialists who understand how to build and finish properties to cope with the coastal climate. Many local gardens are also sloping, making levelling, terracing and sleeper beds a great way to create usable space. Whether you live near the seafront, in the town centre or further up the valley, we're proud to help Sidmouth residents look after their homes.
Services We Provide in Sidmouth
Everything Your Property Needs: Plastering, Decorating & Landscaping
In Sidmouth, we offer a full range of outdoor and indoor services, all carried out by our own team. Our fencing services include featheredge fencing built to withstand coastal winds, custom fencing and screens to shelter seating areas, and metal fencing and railings with powder-coated finishes that resist salt air. We design and lay natural stone patios to complement Sidmouth's period homes and low-maintenance porcelain patios that shrug off sea spray and algae. Our landscaping services include garden levelling, new turf, decorative stone and sleeper beds, ideal for making the most of sloping gardens in the Sid Valley. We also install resin bound, block paving, gravel and concrete driveways with proper drainage for Devon's heavy rain. Inside, we provide plastering and skimming, painting and decorating, damp proofing, internal wall insulation and room-in-roof insulation, helping older seaside homes stay warm, dry and beautifully finished. Outside, our external rendering and exterior painting services protect your walls from the coastal weather, with breathable lime render for traditional properties and modern water-repellent systems for newer homes. With one team handling every trade, you can combine projects easily and deal with the same faces from start to finish.
